Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers (including Restylane and Perlane) are used to smooth wrinkles or folds or to give lips more fullness and contour. The products give shape using the body's own natural material called hyaluronic acid. This binds water in your skin to lift and give new firmness, resorting youthful resiliance to the skin by simply adding to your natural supply.
- Restylane is used to correct thin superficial lines such as those around the eyes and mouth, forehead and smile lines.
- Perlane is used for shaping facial contours such as cheeks and chin, correcting deep folds and for volume augmentation of the lips. A great advantage of this product range is that it is long-lasting but not permanent. The duration of effect is very individual, depending on many factors including your age, skin type, lifestyle, muscle activity together with the injection technique.
The crystal clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts using a very thin needle. The gel particles are absorbed gradually over 6-12 months (wrinkles and facial contouring) or 6 months (lip treatments). When totally absorbed, the gel disappears unnoticed from the body.

What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal Fillers are made from a naturally-occuring substancve called hyaluronic acid. They are typically used to reduce lines around the lower half of the face and the lips. When injected, they have an immediate effect, enhancing facial contours and providing fullness and volume to the skin.
Am I suitable for a Dermal Filler
Most people are suitable for Dermal Fillers. However, you should not use aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, St. John's Wort or high doses of Vitamin E prior to treatment because these may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
How is a Dermal Filler given?
The Dermal Filler is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts using a very small needle. The process is very quick and results can be seen immediately.
How long does it take?
Typically less than 30 mins and the results are instantaneous.
How does it feel?
I always offer a local anaesthetic to reduce any discomfort.
How long does it last?
The effect of hyaluronic acid fillers has been shown to last for up to 6-9 months. At this point, you may wish to have your treatment repeated. If not the effect will gradually wear off.
Are there any side effects?
After the treatment, some common injection-related reactions may occur including redness, pain, itching, discolouration or tenderness at the injection site. These usually resolve within 1-2 days and within a week in lips.
Other reactions are rare (1 in 2,000 treated patients have experienced local hypersensitivity reactions including redness, tenderness and swelling. These have been described as mild to moderate with an average duration of 2 weeks).
